A1 Auto Hub (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a licensed motor car trader based in Ringwood, Victoria. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices available to you. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

The information we collect

The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:

  • Contact details – your name, phone number, email address and postcode or suburb.
  • Vehicle enquiry details – the vehicle you are interested in, whether you would like a test drive, and any message you send us.
  • Details of a vehicle you wish to sell or trade in – make, model, year, kilometres, registration number and condition.
  • Finance enquiry information – where you ask us to help arrange finance, information needed to refer you to a broker or lender.
  • Identity and licence details – where required by law or before a test drive, we may sight and record details from your driver licence.
  • Website usage information – pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived at our site.

We do not deliberately collect sensitive information (such as health information) and ask that you do not send it to us unless we specifically request it.

How we collect it

We collect most personal information directly from you – when you complete an enquiry, sell or finance form on our website, call or email us, or visit our dealership. We may also collect information from third parties such as finance brokers, insurers, vehicle history providers or government agencies where you have asked us to arrange something on your behalf, or where the law permits it.

Why we collect and use it

We use personal information to:

  • respond to your enquiry and provide information about a vehicle;
  • arrange a test drive, appraisal, trade-in or vehicle purchase;
  • refer you to a finance broker or lender at your request;
  • complete the sale, transfer and registration of a vehicle;
  • meet our obligations under motor trading, consumer and taxation laws;
  • improve our website and understand how visitors use it; and
  • send you marketing about vehicles and offers, where you have not opted out.

If you do not provide the information we ask for, we may not be able to answer your enquiry, arrange finance, or complete a sale.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose it to:

  • Finance brokers, lenders and insurers – only where you have asked us to help arrange finance or insurance;
  • Government bodies – such as VicRoads and revenue authorities, for vehicle registration, transfer and duty;
  • Service providers – including our website host, email provider and analytics providers, who are bound to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us;
  • Professional advisers – such as our accountants or lawyers; and
  • Law enforcement or regulators – where we are required or authorised by law.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers, such as website hosting and analytics, may store or process information on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Marketing and how to opt out

If you have enquired with us, we may occasionally contact you about vehicles, offers or services that may interest you. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email, replying to ask us to stop, or contacting us using the details below. We will action your request promptly.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses cookies – small files stored on your device – to keep the site working properly and to understand how it is used. We may use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, which collect information about your visit in a form that does not usually identify you. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do.

Keeping your information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes secure hosting, restricted access to our systems, and staff handling requirements. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security of information sent to us online.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or as required by law, after which we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

Accessing or correcting your information

You may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period. There is no fee for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable cost for providing access in some circumstances. If we refuse a request, we will explain why in writing.

Making a complaint

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it promptly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
